Silvamed cream 40 mg contains 1 % Silver sulfadiazine (a broad-spectrum antimicrobial). It is a competitive inhibitor of bacterial Para-amino benzoic acid which is a substrate of an enzyme called dihydropteroate synthetase to folic acid. Hence, it prevents the production of bacterial folic acid synthesis and produces a cidal effect on the microorganism.
Who should not use this medicine?
A person cannot use Silvamed cream 40 mg under the given medical conditions liver disease, kidney disease, allergic reactions to silver sulfadiazine or other drugs of sulfonamide class of medicine, a genetic enzyme deficiency called glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase. It should not be used during late pregnancy because it may cause serious health issues in newborn infant.
